Review of A Quiet Place (2016) by James L — 26 Apr 2018
The film started out promising and quiet as the name suggests. Excellent build up of suspense. There were a few jump scares that triggered involuntary movements. However, I wasn't satisfied with the progression and ending.
The acting was great but there was no backstory whatsoever. Have these creatures taken over the world, the continent, the state, the county or just that town? And why can't they escape? Who knows.
The monsters were terrifying and excellently designed with little left to the imagination. Unfortunately, the film was rife with plot holes. Not necessarily a bad thing. I guess that was inevitable seeing as there was little dialogue.
Three stars because it's better than most horror films, but it felt like a fast food meal; a tasty and relatively short ride sure to release dopamine but disappointing in the end.
