Review of Vice (2018) by Orange K — 11 Jan 2019
A game of three halves. A very schizophrenic film with three personalities. The first is somewhat weird and boring as the odd narrative structure is revealed. There is definitely something abnormal with this and it is unsettling, it also ends up being a little boring.
The middle third is a class act with the most normal movie story structure and impressive performances from Bale, Carell and, amazingly, Adams. The third section degenerates into abject insanity as the director proceeds to jump every shark and burn every building in chasing his own propaganda mission in his hypocritical bloodlust for republican blood.
Going for clever it just ends up being kinda sick and robs the movie of any classical import. Conclusion: Could have been great, but sadly overwhelmed by the directorâ(TM)s own agenda in the third act.
