Review of Vera Drake (2004) by ♥ Chani L — 19 Feb 2007
The movie starts off as a simple story about a woman (Vera Drake - played brilliantly by Imelda Staunton) and her family living in 1950's England. Amongst carrying out other duties & favours, Vera Drake happens to be whats called a 'backstreet abortionist', she helps women with unwanted pregnancies illegally induce a miscarriage - until the law catches up with her.
I'm sure this movie topic isn't to everybodys taste, but this was a powerful & moving film.
