Review of Vera Drake (2004) by Mary B — 26 Jan 2008
The essence of Leigh's films focus on personal survival strategies and his "Vera Drake" thoughtfully explores strategies of survival that women must face and the backlash against women for just trying to get by.
This is one of the best mainstream feminist films in recent history creating a matrix of personal choice and systemic values placed over women's bodies.
