Review of Vantage Point (2008) by Dawdlingpoet — 25 Nov 2021
This movie is one you need your thinking cap on for, it requires a fair bit of concentration. Its quite fast paced and its cleverly done in as much as you only slowly get a slightly bigger picture of what happened, its not given away too soon and your introduced to many different types of character, it doesn't take long until its clear that things are more complicated than they perhaps first seemed.
There is a conspiracy 'feel' to it, though I wouldn't want to give too much away, so thats all I'll say about that I think.
Its intriguing enough to keep you watching and there are a few shock moments, visually speaking and plot-wise. It is a case of blink and you could miss that vital clue, another piece of the puzzle, so I certainly wouldn't call it boring.
It did seem, if anything, somewhat confusing to follow, story wise, keeping track of who's who and who appears to be good or bad, what any motives may be etc., I found I struggled to keep track once it gathered real pace after 45 or 50 minutes into it but it was still very much exciting enough to keep my eyes glued to the screen.
I would also say, on the negative side, that I thought the ending was a bit too 'convenient' and not entirely believable, which detracted from it a bit.
I like that the movie wasn't too long, it didn't become overly strained, as far as the story is concerned and it means that you don't have to put the movie on too early so that it finishes in time for you to get to sleep at a decent time lol this movie only lasts about an hour and twenty minutes, so its fairly short but it didn't seem too short either, I thought it was about right.
Also the cast is good, with a number of well known actors and actresses including Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver.
As far as the movie is concerned, as an 'edge of your seat' action/thriller, yes I would recommend it. I did feel it kept my attention throughout and I was entertained and interested enough to watch it right through to the end.
If your picky, you may take issue with the fact that there are some plot holes and particularly with the very end outcome, from a realistic point of view but I say just watch it and enjoy it as an action/thriller, you should still be able to enjoy it, its quite an 'absorbing' movie I thought and there is enough to keep you entertained for the fairly short hour and twenty minutes or so it lasts.
