Review of On the Silver Globe (1989) by Artur B — 30 Jul 2016
This is one of those times when you're thinking to yourself: has the whole world gone mad to like this movie? What am I missing? The direction is highly conceptual. So much so that it completely gets in its own way never giving the viewer an opportunity to engage because they are constantly trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
The characters are cardboard cutouts. They are given names and cool costumes and that's about all you have as a viewer to try to care about them. To add insult to injury they keep trying to convey some kind of inner turmoil and launching into high-voltage over-labored emotional outbursts, pondering the perils of their existence or acting in strange unexplainable ways. All of which feels simply ridiculous coming from these one-dimensional stick figures.
I wish I'd spent that hour at the dentist! (Yeah I lasted that long before I walked out).
