Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Dawdlingpoet — 27 Nov 2021
First off, I feel somewhat uncomfortable with Tom Cruise playing the main character, the guy in charge of this noble attempt to defeat the deadly Hitler - namely colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. When I saw he was in it, I thought he must be the 'ultimate good guy' given the type of roles he tends to go for. It felt a bit too Hollywood for my liking. However, it is based on a true story and I liked that there's text provided on screen at the end, prior to the credits rolling, which explain what happened to the various people involved. Other perhaps surprising cast members present in this film include Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander (of 'Rev' fame!).
Anyway, I assume the historical accuracy is roughly correct. There are some fairly decent special effects and as a historical drama/thriller, its not bad, perhaps somewhat thought provoking. Yes, I suppose I'd hesitatingly recommend it.
