Review of Valkyrie (2008) by David H — 05 Dec 2017
The facts of the actual Operation Valkyrie have also been subjected to unforgiving critical analysis; and just like the film which presents them, faithfully prove their substance and integrity. The degree of historical accuracy to which, "Valkyrie," (2008) reliably adheres, creates an entirely new standard of truthfulness, set at breathtaking altitude.
No apology nor alteration is due for not distorting reality, for the mere sake of producing a, "thriller." If anything, "Valkyrie," appears as a much more foreign work than the expected, garden-variety film set in Nazi Germany. A history often overlooked lends perspective which drastically broadens the thinking minds' understanding of the larger WWII subject.
If the rare instance of a small group of people holding themselves responsible to genuinely try their damnedest to do what is right, by however circuitous means necessary, and, against insurmountable odds - is not dramatic enough, for critics seeking entertainment, derived from the worst Anthropogenic catastrophe in all Human history - then, "Valkyrie," is only at fault for being honest.
"Are you not entertained?".
