Review of Vacancy (1999) by Tibor B — 21 Jul 2010
A strong genre film which doesn't try to punch above its weight, American/Hungarian director Antal takes the motel horror genre started by a certain Mr Hitchcock and gives it a 21st centruy snuff movie twist, and a bit more violence (although predictably very little here is more horrible than Psychos best scenes).
I was a little disappointed when it became clear that Antal and screnwriter Mark Smith didn't really have any imaginative new ideas to offer, but seeing how bad some of the films in this genre can be, at least the filmmakers hit the expected standards rather than falling short.
