Review of Up the Yangtze (2007) by Bartek F — 20 Feb 2010
The two young adults working on the cruise ship, leaving their homes, families and friends, for the first time, their attitudes and outlooks, make this a more compelling documentary than it could be. American tourists are made to look like they were looking for an old China that did not exist anymore.
Scenes of disgruntle, displaced families who had to give up their home, and lands, to move upland and inland, for an uncertain future. The dams wiil be good for the country, but for the individuals who are directly affected, it tells of untold sorrows.
