Review of Under the Volcano (1984) by Erik K — 20 May 2008
This is a film with so much bubbling under the surface. Sometimes that is bad because it gets a little boring, but mostly it's just fascinating to watch. Albert Finney gives a masterful performance as a mostly-drunken British consul living in Mexico.
The film sometimes does not live up to the quality that he brings. It probably should have been shorter as the first act really drags. It is worth the wait as the final act is really spectacular. Worth watching, but not mind-blowing.
