Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Rafaele L — 22 Sep 2007
Equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming film about an elderly Italian man faced with poverty and eviction by a tyrannical landlady, whose only friends are a young pregnant maid, and his faithful dog, Flike.
A stunning masterpiece by Vittorio De Sica ("The Bicycle Thief"), and quite possibly the finest example of Italian neorealism.
