Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Maxwell S — 19 Jun 2012
So many truths are spoken in this emotionally beautiful film. This is one of the few films that cuts straight to the core of me. My heart is still broken having watched this. The premise of an old man and his dog has to be one of the most simple and beautiful things.
This film portrays exactly what we urged to see and more. Maybe my favorite performance of all time (Battisti as Umberto D.). The fact that almost everyone repulses him except the very rare few who do.
People look at him and feel disgusted, which absolutely tears me apart. I love this film. Maybe the saddest film I have seen (next to The Elephant Man).
