Review of Topsy-Turvy (1999) by Ed F — 19 Dec 2010
A different Mike Leigh film in that it adheres to a non-fictional narrative, Topsy-Turvy is the true story of the relationship between William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, whose partnership contributes to the productions at the Savoy theater.
Broadbent and Corduner are extremely watchable in their roles, the supporting cast are, as per usual for a Leigh film, entirely rich and compelling and the musical performance numbers are a joy to watch.
An exemplary Mike Leigh film, and one of the most entertaining films I've seen in a very long while.
