Review of Topaz (1969) by Wednesday T — 10 Dec 2010
Not one of Hitchcock's best, TOPAZ does still have some things going for it. The real-world political intrigue elements of the plot are interesting, the international cast is credible, and there are a couple of Hitch's typically bravura set pieces.
Having said that, the last act of the film really seems to bog down, and a few of the subplots are unnecessary. A tighter, leaner cut of the film supposedly exists, and I suspect it's probably a bit better.
