Review of Thief (1981) by Jayson Q — 21 Mar 2008
We get some really good use of the frame here. Often Caan and the other lowlife characters are pushed to the furthest edges of the screen, which I think says a lot about their characters. Caan is decent being that this is maybe the best version of the character he plays in most of his films.
Offers up a traditional criminal-looking-for-the-normal-life kind of story, which leaves me a little bored. But Mann does night and neon better than anyone, which is a drawing point here.
