Review of Thief (1981) by James L — 26 Dec 2015
About 14 years before Michael Mann made Heat he made Thief. Although Heat has a better cast and Mann was probably a better director at this point, in Thief, he was able to pick on the talents of James Caan.
Caan excels with a gritty, energetic performance that will have audiences thinking back to Sonny Corleone in the Godfather. Caan is cool and slick playing an unrefined character who somehow convinces us to back him all the way in his struggle not to conform in the crime underworld.
