Review of Thief (1981) by Jake A — 19 Feb 2016
Finally saw this awesome movie. James Caan and Tuesday Weld are pretty much perfect as characters in transition. Willie Nelson is Caan's anchor to the past. James Belushi gives good sidekick. Caan has old values but things are in transition.
In fact, this movie *is* transition. Daytime belongs to the 70's cops and robbers genre: harsh light, cheap suits, bad shaves, bent cops. The 80's come out at night: Tangerine Dream music, rain, neon on black cars.
One scene evokes Blade Runner... except this came first.
