Review of The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) by Lahiru D — 04 Mar 2008
One of Peter Weir's early successes finds a young Mel Gibson in good form in 1960s Indonesia during a time of political upheaval. This is vintage Weir, transporting the viewer to another time and place and examining it with an objective eye.
Sigourney Weaver is miscast, but Linda Hunt is excellent as the diminutive Billy Kwan. A very good film that examines a society and an ambitious man's relentless drive at the expense of those he cares about.
