In my opinion, this is one of the top-25 all-time greatest films ever made. Every frame of this atmospheric masterpiece is a work of art! By far and away (again, in my opinion) the best performance of Mel Gibson's career, with right-up-there performances by Sigourney Weaver, and a haunting, Oscar-winning one by Linda Hunt.
(As a matter of fact, the entire cast is pitch-perfect down to the smallest role.) The cinematography by Russell Boyd is truly phenomenal; score by Maurice Jarre perfect. (This soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites, and one that I still listen to this day.
) And, of course, that final fade-out scene brings me to tears.... (I'm a wimp when it comes to artistically-inclined, poetically-framed endings.) :D.
