Review of The Year My Parents Went on Vacation (2006) by Angell M — 11 Jan 2009
Thanks Janice for recommanding me that film. I really, really enjoyed watching it. Amazing plot and cinematography with a "low budget": $1.5 million.(I can't find the average budget in Brazil thought.. So hard to know how low is low and so how much those $1.5M represent there.(If anybody has some tips by the way..) But for ex: city of god: $3.3M, Carandiru:$6M. But so many are under $500 000 so....?!).
Anyway, the movie has everything about what I love in Cinema. It is strong, poetic, simple, true, cultural and beautiful. In fact I had to watch it in VO without subs, (and my Portuguese is very, very low!) But it does have the greatest : Universality. The movie talks for itself, almost no need to understand the language. To me, that movie is complete. As it is said below, it doesn't ring a wrong note.
I'll watch it again sometimes.
