Review of The World of Apu (1959) by Brian S — 21 Jul 2011
Easily my least favorite of the trilogy, but it's still pretty outstanding. having finally reached adulthood, Apu now has to learn to handle the responsibilities that come with it, including marriage and fatherhood.
the film juggles a plethora of emotions, and all of them are beautifully convincing. the only reason it's my least favorite is because I thought the story wasn't as soundly developed as the other two--I wanted a bit more of his relationship with his wife, and I wanted to see his relationship with his son as a much bigger obstacle.
even still, what's given is very satisfying and it's a solid conclusion to a thoroughly excellent series of films.
