Review of The Wiz (1978) by Michael H — 28 Dec 2008
Wow, I wish I had discovered this back when I was a kid.
Incredible, Henson-esque costume designs and elaborate sets that conjure up a wickedly impressionistic version of NYC combine for a spectacular visual treat, and the whole film is an absolute high-energy joy to watch. I do have my criticisms, though: there are a couple of weak/misguided performances in there, a few unwelcome stereotypes and the whole production is curiously long, but still, the overall product is a great one.
