Review of The Wiz (1978) by Bones R — 02 Aug 2014
I don't understand... apparently people DON'T like this movie?
Do they not "get it"? I mean, yes, it's the NYC, black retelling of Wizard Of Oz.
It's super-imaginative in how it translates all to the NYC landscape, and the costuming and themes are purposeful and intelligent.
The original stage musical script is pretty awful, but the music carries it.
This version makes the parts between the music make sense, and flow pretty well.
PLUS THE MUSIC!!!!
I have no idea why Richard Pryor is in this, since they cut two great songs for him.
BUUUUUT- This is a wonderful movie!
