Review of The Wiz (1978) by Jason M — 07 Dec 2015
A creepy and dark depiction of New York City shows with metaphors, characters and scenes the life of the city. Dark graffiti alleys, shiny yellow taxis that won't pick up black people, gangs, weirdos, a scary subway, exuberant hookers, a vibrant fabolous gay downtown scene.
Stellar performances by Michael Jackson and Mabel King. Sure, Diana Ross is somehow miscast but besides her horrible fear faces she pulls it off. Some musical acts shouldn't be there, but the good ones are splendid with perfect outfits, great choreography and awesome scenography.
