Review of The Wiz (1978) by Sunshine R — 06 Oct 2009
The film takes a classic tale, applies black stereotypes to every aspect of it and ba-bang! It's a clusmy piece of the filmmaking. It lacks a general idea of what's suppose to be going on, as the film gets really out of hand with it's hip-reimanging, I honestly don't know what's going on half the time.
The only aspect that is interesting is Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, because it features what he does best: dance. Beyond that, it's a forgotten piece of cinema that I'm sure at the time was a cool idea but know the film is a joke.
I seriously thought that it was a joke when someone was telling me the concept of it, like really? A black version of The Wizard of Oz? DAT'S KRAZY! I'm not racist, but this film really pushes it at times.
