Review of The Wiz (1978) by Brian M — 08 Sep 2009
I am not exactly sure what the intention was in making this version of the Wizard of OZ. It had the familiar charactors, but, it all seemed so dark, and more of a horror story than a childs vivid dream. But, considering the fact that Ross was a grown woman, and not portrayed as a child as Garland was. Who knows what they were thinking.
Everything about this movie was so strange. The only thing enjoyable about it was the catchy musical numbers. It was like she was in a tornado that took her out of the ghetto, and dropped her into one that was even worse.
It just didn't have the charm or the feel of a fantasy voyage as the Wizard of oz. I think if they had the same Charactors, and took her out of the obvious wasteland they put her into, and kept the same musical numbers, it would have been a lot better film.
Other than that, I liked it. But, I'm not sure why.
