Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Bruce B — 14 Jun 2008
Moving, powerful film about the Irish Republican Army in the 1920s before and after the Peace Treaty that split the country, creating Northern Ireland and the Republic. There are several wonderful scenes of the republicans debating the use of violence for political ends.
Through these discussions, the film communicates the moral complexity of the republican stance. Cillian Murphy is outstanding.
