Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by F Clark W — 12 Jul 2009
This still holds up. Anti heroes to the rescue! Well, not rescue, exactly. With only a pair of exceptions, the cast is uniformly good. Like Seven Samurai and the Magnificent Seven, it features a group of men engaging in a trade whose time is waning, if not already past.
Within the context of the carton violence of its spaghetti western forebears the more graphic violence of TWB packs a wallop, waking the view up from the stupor induced by bullets whose affects we do not see.
Screens tonight at 7p at the Belcourt.
