Review of The Wife (2017) by Heng L — 16 Sep 2018
I sat at the edge of my seat, waiting for the explosive scenes. And boy, did they not disappoint. Years of suppressed feelings of inferiority and resentment gushing out of the couple's souls like a series of volcanic eruptions. The family secret that hurts and destroys them also ironically bonds them together. What a wonderful homage to the many complexities of human relationships. How we are dependent on each other through it all - through the bliss and toxicity.
And given my current designation, it just struck me how children from intact families can still feel messed up about themselves.
"A writer needs to write".
"A writer needs to be read".
The most powerful exchange ???
