Review of The Wailing (2016) by Adrian S — 08 Jul 2016
The Wailing epitomises what I LOVE about Korean mystery thrillers - twisty and cunning plot (you've not seen from Hollywood), clever misdirection, rustic Korean setting and imperfect if bumbling protagonists (which play to the strengths of the tricksy narrative devices).
This latest masterpiece from auteur Na Hong-Jin is in the vein of my fave thrillers of all time, the classic whodunnit Memories of Murder and serial killer thriller The Chaser. The last hour is the best bit and it left me gripped like no other film in recent memory.
