Sofia Coppola's 1999 film The Virgin Suicides is a very very dark, but funny, film. This dream of a movie takes place 25 years before 99, (which would be 1974), it's about the Lisbon family. The Lisbon family is a family of 5 blond beautiful girls, their ages are from 13-17.

One of them is played by Kirsten Dunst, and as usual she turns out to be basically the main character. Anyways, & the 5 girls parents are very religious & strict, they run a very tight household, which consists of none of the girls going out with boys alone, if they are to be with the boys they must be inside the house with the parents.

& then eventually after various attempts of suicide the youngest 13 year old daughter, Cecilia, commits suicide, & she is dead. Basically the film revolves around that & other events that end up happening later on in the film.

For being as dark, mysterious, & fucked up as it is, it ended up being another great piece of work from Sofia Coppola. This movie stars many great actors such as...James Woods as the surprisingly calm father, Kathleen Turner as the strict mother, Josh Hartnett as Trip, Kirsten Dunst as Lux etc.
