Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Stephen P — 11 Aug 2008
Another great film from Bergman. Really creates a feeling of what it might have been like to live back then. The virgin was a bit like one of the brady bunch but the gritty realism of what happens to her creates a serious, shocking focus.
So brutal and shocking especially for the time it was made. Someone said they didn't like the end but I found the end incredibly moving. I'm not into religion at all but Bergman managed to create a powerful study of faith, revenge and redemption.
