Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Shaun M — 08 Apr 2009
Ingmar Bergman's revenge parable is a simply told but thoughtful film that considers the extent to which acts of violence in vengeance are considered proportionate, intertwined with considerations towards the role of faith in the family, and the universal theme of class conflict.
Max Von Sydow delivers another great performance with frequent collaborator Bergman, and it is evident that this film greatly inspired Wes Craven's horror film The Last House on the Left.
