Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Jeff Q — 31 Jan 2010
So, evidently I?m not a Ingmar Bergman fan. The Virgin Spring is my third film of his and even though I enjoyed this one the most, I could take it or leave it. The Virgin Spring, like his others, is heavy on themes (religion, spirituality, morality) and though many think Berman is the bomb, I have never felt he is any better at asking thought-provoking questions than many another director.
Bergman?s films are sooooo slooooow and I just can?t overcome the pacing like it seems everybody else can. I still want to watch The Seventh Seal at some point, but I?m expecting to be underwhelmed with that one as well.
