Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Salix A — 02 Oct 2010
I'm thinking this has to be where Wes Craven got the idea for his "The Last House On the Left". Great movie, tragic story. One asks just how often this happened in the medieval period and later went down under a fairytale?
I don't believe that Odin answered the sister's prayer. He is the protector of mankind, not the enemy. One would more likely invoke Loki for such a terrible thing.
It was touching to see the family's reaction to this winter tragedy. The father didn't hesitate to kill the child, yet he seemed not to feel much anger for the elder sister. The ending is the best part, with the spring. It's very metaphoric. I would like to see more films like this, based in the medieval periods.
