Review of The Virgin Queen (1955) by Super K — 12 Apr 2008
I am about to watch the two recent films about Elizabeth Rex I, so a review of Bette Davis' contribution to the filmic portrayal of history's greatest heroine is timely.
I'll be brief. I could only bear watching 15 minutes of Bette Davis ham up this thing with an accent that was neither wholly Cockney nor Bayou. When Davis acts well she's brilliant, when she's bad she really is OTT. This movie falls into the latter. Plus I was never a fan of swashbuckler drama.
