Review of The U.S. vs. John Lennon (2006) by Leah L — 10 Jan 2008
This film really moved me. Watching the clips of Vietnam and seeing how passionately the people (particularly the youth) of America protested against it made me realize that I need to get much more involved in politics. I registered to vote, but that's not enough. Not if you want to truly help and make a difference in the way things are.
I liked the old clips of John and Yoko and hearing their side of the story. However, I just read Cynthia's memoir, so I know that while they were out promoting peace and traveling the world, Cynthia was at home with Julian, who felt sad and neglected by his father. Julian wasn't even mentioned at all in the movie (nor was Cynthia), but there was a segment about how much John loved Sean and how deep their connection was. It just made me sad for Julian because I know what it feels like to be a member of a "starter family" and then try to fit into your parent's "new family." Leaving Julian out was a glaring omission.
