Review of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) by Sam C — 18 Dec 2007

Beautifully shot, performed and written. An excellent self aware and inter textual comment on the Hollywood musical. A very positive first encounter with Jacques Demy - left me wanting to see more of Catharine Deneuve and Anne Vernon, who particularly stand out of the excellent cast.

I'm looking forward to watching it again, without the couple talking throughout the film a couple of rows behind me!
