Review of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) by Mallory A — 14 Oct 2009
A truly beautiful movie. You will tend to forget it is a musical as the movie rolls as it doesn't necessarily rhymes and the words used are of a natural conversation. The musical is not forced onto the audience.
Rather, the musical follows the unfolding drama. The scenario itself is nothing out of the ordinary, but the way it is delivered, in full colours, with ingenious scenes, with this daring music and the radiance of the actors (particularly the iconic Deneuve) make Les Parapluies de Cherbourg a real masterpiece.
Not be underestimated and certainly not to be missed.
