Review of The Ultimate Gift (2007) by John M — 28 Mar 2009
In the alcohol of movies, The Ultimate Gift is a 6-pack of Smirnoff Ice; so sugary sweet, it's nauseating. The cast is actually just fine, and even the direction is descent, it's just that the movie bashes you over the head with it's agenda so bluntly, it takes away from all the good things in the movie.
This is a movie made for old religious types (I watched it with one), because it successfully depicts their views on the youth of today: poor-work ethics, only concerned with material goods, not enough belief in the family structure, etc.
, etc. It also shows the main character, played by Drew Fuller, transfigure (actually convincingly) into everything the elders wish this generation would be, which is the exact opposite. It's preachy propoganda.
It just made me feel like the biggest cynic in the world watching this next to somebody crying and not being moved.
