Review of The Third Man (1949) by Rob W — 25 Feb 2009
The entire movie leads to a confrontation between two old friends in war torn 40's Vienna. Although Graham Greene wrote the screenplay, I believe Orson Welles was responsible for one of the greatest lines in the history of American cinema: "In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshedâbut they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance.
In Switzerland they had brotherly love, 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.".
