An pulp fiction writer named Holly Martins travels to post war Vienna because Harry Lime, his college friend, hires him. Holly arrives to Vienna to find that Harry is dead. This discovery drives Holly to find out what exactly happened to The film was flat out great. It develops Vienna as a dark city. Some of the shadow use is great. It never feels very lively. The underground sewers are a great place for a chase. The plot and characters are phenomenal. Anna is a great love interest. She seems unusually loyal to Harry, despite the fact the he is scum. She distances herself from Holly.

The best scene in the movie is the intense conversation on a farris wheel.
