Review of The Third Man (1949) by Chillindylan G — 03 Apr 2015
Great film that is paced very well and sweeps you in and out of scenes quickly without a lot of fluff. Great acting job by Joseph Cotten and Trevor Howard, though I thought Alida Valli was a tad stiff. The story was very compelling, and really takes off in the third act when Orson Welles makes his first appearance. My biggest issue with the movie was the score - while it's lauded by many, I found it to be distracting and inappropriate. It felt akin to the score in Moonrise Kingdom, which worked in that atmosphere but, for me, detracted from the drama in certain scenes in this film.
Grade = 8/10.
