Review of The Thin Man (1934) by Donald L — 27 Jan 2010
The chemistry between the male and female is legendary, and they make for one of the smartest and cutest couples I can ever recall in movie history. Between Powell's catty banter, and Loy's smirky expressions its hard not to fall in love with them from the second they hit the screen. Even the dog presents a genuine and humorous part as the slap stick caricature of the events in the movie. Also the use of alcohol in the movie is in itself worthy of note...would make a great drinking game to try and keep up with the great detective and his quest to avoid getting involved.
There were a couple minor flaws in the movie, mostly involving one blonde haired woman who's over the top acting drug down an otherwise quiet but thoughtful cast...but its hard to hate this movie. Definitely one of the best.
