Review of The Thin Man (1934) by Katie M — 07 Jan 2013
W.S. Van Dyke takes on the ugly green monster of genre mixing and amalgamates the darkness and emptiness of noir and charm and humor of 30's romantic comedies. A mix of complete polar opposites of genres that could have failed miserably, but instead is one of the dandiest movies I've ever seen.
The script is brilliantly complex, it's expertly directed and blah, blah, blah. The real hero of this movie, and the main reason I like this movie so much was the chemistry between William Powell and Myrna Loy as they play the sarcastic, so-much-in-love couple with their trusty, yet cowardly dog Asta.
Honestly, the only thing I didn't like about this movie were the scenes that didn't have the two of them in it.
