Review of The Thief of Bagdad (1940) by Andrew U — 30 May 2008
Outstanding fantasy film that was a good 25 years ahead of its time. This gargantuan production from the David O. Selznick of Britain Alexander Korda, features great performances and visual effects that hold their own even by today's standards (note this film was released in 1940).
The story, taken from the Arabian Nights tales, follows the adventures of young thief Abu as he tries to help Prince Ahmad regain the throne usurped by the evil Jaffar. A gem!
