New-To-Me #10: Unlike the over-directed, over-acted 2009 remake, this film was much more realistic (and subsequently much, much better). Aside from Jaws, this is the only other movie I've seen Robert Shaw in and I thought his cool demeanor was much more terrifying than John Travolta's over-the-top crazy man.
Walter Mathau also shines in this flick as the transit police lieutenant who has to deal with the hijacking. The suspense just keeps on coming in this one, with a few laughs sprinkled through to break up the tension.
Do yourself a favor and skip the remake. This one's awesome.
