Review of The Sum of Us (1994) by David A — 22 Nov 2009
[from The Watermark, 1995-04-29].
The Sum of Us is definitely a must-see gay film. Based on the stage play, it is the story of a widowed father (Jack Thompson) and a gay son (Russell Crowe) and their respective quests for love and companionship. The film is both dramatic and hilarious - the only questionable part is the theatrical device of speaking to the audience. That works in the theatre, it seems strange on film.
