Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Kenneth B — 14 Sep 2014
I'll admit that despite its overwhelming popularity I had never seen The Sound of Music, nor did I even know very much about it. Now that I have finally overcome my cynicism I can quite confidently proclaim this to be quite a spectacular film.
From the sweeping majesty of the rolling hills to the final chase through the darkened streets of Salzburg. The themes of love and faith are tempered by the darker themes of Nazism and impending change to the Austrian way of life as a whole.
All in all The Sound of Music is warm film which, like all great 'feel good' feels isn't without its darker moments. Oh and I actually liked some of the songs too.
